RWEYOWA: Teaching English in our local schools

English is Uganda's official language and it is one area that students need help most. By volunteering, you help develop the pronunciation, vocabulary and writing skills of students. With the introduction of Universal Primary Education (free primary school education) in Uganda, the Uganda Government was faced with a dilemma. A large amount of students entitled to an education and a comparative lack of teachers. Teaching at a Ugandan. community school is an experience like no other. Although their lives have been harsh, the local children are extremely eager to learn. This project is an ideal opportunity to help students with new ways of learning to improve their understanding and speaking abilities of the English language. RWEYOWA needs English volunteer teachers to help in partner Schools in Uganda both nursery and primary school levels. You can volunteer and Intern from 1 month to 1 year and help the one in Need. No Experience is required. You can start working with us at any Date throughout the year. Schools in Uganda runs for three terms a year although the school terms vary from year to year but are approximately as follows: (Term One – January to March, Term Two – May to July, and Term Three – September to November). There are short breaks between these terms in the months of April, August and December during which time volunteers can take a break and can engage in other RWEYOWA activities if interested or if not involves in tourist activities. You would serve as a teacher or teaching assistant. You would be engaged in teaching, giving assignments, class tests and awarding marks. The children will greatly value the attention and help you offer. You will be able to design a program with your class by setting achievement targets with the existing syllabus with the support of the school. You will have the opportunity to teach classes or assist in teaching classes in the school that you are placed. A volunteer will have full time assistance and support at school and at RWEYOWA, Comprehensive Pre- Departure Information, Airport Pickup & drop off, On arrival a welcome meeting, Orientation Upon Arrival with the school and RWEYOWA, Food, Accommodation (Shared rooms) with assured security, Completion Certificate, Safe Volunteer Placement is our great concern. Children are regarded as the pillars of any nation. We think that they are not only the future but also the present. Many volunerable children in Uganda can't afford additional private English classes to continue with their higher education. Your role as a volunteer can make a difference in these children's lives, many of whom dream of speaking English Volunteers need to have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment.
